I grew up with photography. With my dad spending his career with Kodak, I was never far from a camera. Photography has always been integral to my work, allowing me to capture my ephemeral art works and events.
In addition to traditional photography, I use alternative, camera-free processes. In common with my approach to ceramics, I’m drawn to the process, experimentation and the element of surprise, intrinsic to these methods. In recent years I have been award funding to undertake an Eco Darkroom course at Stills photographic gallery. I’ve also undertaken a residency at Cove Park, to further my learning.
I frequently incorporate camera-free techniques into my participatory projects, as they are popular with people of all ages and levels of artistic experience, fostering inclusivity, creativity and confidence.
Some of these techniques rely on ultra violet light. I aim to harness the renewable energy from the sun, but when the weather isn’t on my side, I make use of UV lights from my light installations!
