Community Collage, Trinity House Maritime Museum
Commission by Historic Environment Scotland, to work with my own coastal community, to explore our maritime heritage. I worked with local groups to explore potential stories from past and present, to represent on this large-scale collage. The piece features a diverse array of tales, including personal anecdotes from residents' grannies and the ongoing struggles of the construction of the new tram network.
Figures depicted range from local musicians and sporting figures, to historical sailors, dock workers and fish wives, capturing our diverse community. In addition to human characters, the collage includes animals such as lost cats, an elephant that once visited the library, and a panther that resided at a local pub!
To source the images, I took my own photographs of key land marks and visited Scran -Scotlands historical digital archive. Visitors of all ages contributed to the creation of the collage during several open days at this historic building, adding their own unique touch to this collaborative artwork.
