National Museums of Scotland & Brunstane Primary School
Socially engaged project with a local primary school, in the run up to a major exhibition, highlighting the issue of plastic pollution in the oceans.
Through this project, pupils had the opportunity to explore the museum's collections. I set them the challenge of hunting for patterns within the museums architecture and objects. Through photography and sketching, they explored colour combinations and repetition.
Back in the classroom, we worked with plastic waste materials from the museum and school, namely crisp packets, sweetie wrappers and bubble wrap. These seemingly mundane, waste materials were transformed into meaningful pieces of eco-artwork. I installed their work in the foyer of their school, making a colourful, welcoming, contemplative, space for pupils, parents and staff.
