Heads up!
Heads Up! Fruitmarket, Edinburgh
I was invited to contribute my expertise in workshop delivery, project management, and technical ceramics to an ambitious public engagement project. Participants took inspiration from the current exhibition by artist Daniel Silver. Throughout the course of the project, myself and other local artists delivered workshops for schools and community groups from across the city. Members of the public also got involved through public workshops and online videos.
Participants were guided through a series of sensory exercises to create three self-portraits from clay. Following that, we facilitated discussions about the creative process and the resulting artworks. Participants then selected their favourite portrait for firing.
As the lead artist and technician, I developed a firing schedule and collaborated with the gallery director to curate an exhibition showcasing the participants' work.
An opening event was organised to celebrate their achievements, inviting participants and the wider community to the gallery. At the of the project, the heads were returned to the participants, serving as lasting mementoes of their creative journey.
